Telmo Fernández De Barrena receives the Best Student Paper Award at the conference “Innovative Intelligent Industrial Production and Logistics” 2023

Telmo Fernández de Barrena, researcher in Data Intelligence for Energy and Industrial Processes receives the "Best Student Paper Award" at the IN4PL 2023 conference held in Rome on 15, 16 and 17 November.

This conference focuses on research and development involving innovative methods, software and hardware, whereby intelligent systems are applied to industrial production and logistics. This is currently related to the concept of industry 4.0 - an expression reflecting the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes which include cyber-physical systems, the industrial internet of things, industrial robotics, cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence.

The paper "5G and MEC based Data Streaming Architecture for Industrial AI", written by Telmo Fernández De Barrena and tutored by Vicomtech researcher Dr. Juan Luis Ferrando Chacón, was awarded among other scientific papers by several international students.

The need for real-time data and processing capabilities is essential for smart manufacturing systems. The challenges of latency, privacy and security in cloud computing for industrial artificial intelligence have led to the emergence of edge computing, which performs processing close to the data source. Our researcher Telmo's scientific paper proposes a real-time data transmission architecture for deploying industrial AI applications on a Multi-Access Edge Computing server, successfully validated over a 5G network, where different microservices are deployed in a Kubernetes cluster.

The prize awarded shows the high level of the researchers that make up our Centre, as well as demonstrating Vicomtech's commitment to promoting and influencing the new talents that represent the future of innovation and development in our territory.
