Vicomtech researcher Yağmur Çiğdem publishes the course ‘Using PyTorch for Image Classification and Object Detection’ as an AI professor.

Yağmur Çiğdem, researcher at Vicomtech in the area of Intelligent Security Video Analytics, publishes her own course ‘Using PyTorch for Image Classification and Object Detection’ as a lecturer in Artificial Intelligence.

The course in question is about Image Classification and Object Detection. With 10 different modules, common architectures are explained pointing out their novelties, as well as with practical coding experience for these novel components or the complete architecture. In addition to the theoretical part to learn the particularities of these architectures, training, testing and deployment of the more advanced models, tutorials are provided in a notebook format. ‘I always like to examine computer vision architectures in a detailed way to understand and to share, so when this offer to be an author came, I was thrilled to accept,’ says Yağmur. The course is a complete guide to start from zero, and reach an advanced level for computer vision tasks.

Yağmur did her bachelor in Computer Science Engineering in Galatasaray University, Istanbul, Turkey, with a Master's degree in Computer Vision and Robotics from the University of Bourgogne. She started at Vicomtech motivated by the applied research more than a year ago: ‘Having the research and application part together in Vicomtech was interesting, since I like to read state-of-the-art models and try to understand the architecture and novelties. In addition, being the one to implement the solution was one of the things that attracted me most to the centre,’ explains the researcher.

The publication of the course shows the high quality of training of the researchers who make up Vicomtech, and once again demonstrates the centre's commitment to transferring knowledge to society.
