Vicomtech is participating in METROTEK, an innovative project that seeks to revolutionize dimensional quality control through automation and the use of advanced technologies. The main objective is to improve accuracy and efficiency in the automatic scanning of parts of considerable size and complex geometry, while optimizing the integration of measurement sensors in mobile robotic systems.
The automatic measurement of parts with irregular or large geometries remains a major challenge in the industrial sector, mainly due to the difficulties in accessing all parts of the component without human intervention. To address this challenge, Vicomtech is investigating manipulator and mobile robotic systems equipped with advanced vision tools that enable accurate and efficient full scans.
One technological challenge is the development of advanced planning algorithms that ensure fast, accurate and safe scanning while respecting the required tolerances and optimizing the volume of data generated. To achieve this, artificial intelligence techniques, such as reinforcement learning, are being used to enable systems to improve their performance based on previous experience and to adapt dynamically during the scanning process.
In addition, the project addresses the challenge of integrating data from multiple sensors, such as optical and robot-embedded sensors.
Vicomtech is exploring hybrid methodologies that combine physical models of the robots with artificial intelligence algorithms to correct errors and obtain more accurate measurements. This data fusion not only improves the quality of measurements, but also optimizes the overall performance of the systems.
The Metrotek project involves Vicomtech, Tekniker, IDEKO, Tecnalia, the University of the Basque Country, CFAA, and Innovalia Association.
With this research, Vicomtech reaffirms its commitment to innovation in Industry 4.0, developing technological solutions that drive automation, increase efficiency and improve quality standards in industrial environments.
