The European RESPONDENT project will carry out its first pilot demonstration on October 15 in Athens

16.07.2024

RESPONDENT, the Horizon Europe project dedicated to advancing the integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into Europe’s power grids using European space technology, is excited to announce the date for the first of its two pilot demonstrations. The event will take place on 15th October, 2024 at the headquarters of project partner Kiefer and online, followed by a visit to their solar PV park in Athens, Greece.

This first pilot demonstration marks a significant milestone for the RESPONDENT project, as it aims to validate the project’s innovative RES power generation forecasting AI/ML algorithm under real-world conditions. Leveraging the Copernicus EO Climate and Atmosphere Monitoring service (CAMS), the pilot will provide crucial data and insights to further enhance the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy integration.

Key Highlights of the Demonstration:

  • Date and Location: 15th October, 2024, Athens, Greece.
  • Technology Showcase: Demonstrating the use of AI/ML algorithms powered by European space technology to predict RES power generation.
  • Project Impact: Validating predictions for local weather conditions and power output of the RES installation.
  • Stakeholder Involvement: Bringing together project partners, stakeholders, and industry leaders to witness this momentous stage of the project.

The Project Coordinator Effie Makri expressed her anticipation for the event and its importance to the project: “This pilot demonstration is undoubtedly a pivotal moment for RESPONDENT, representing the culmination of all of our hard work up to this point. It allows us to showcase the cutting-edge technology we’ve developed and its potential to demonstrate the capabilities of European space technologies to not only contribute to the ambitions of the EU Green Deal, but to decrease Europe’s dependencies on imported fossil fuels and shield against geo-political disruptions. We look forward to sharing our progress and the positive impact this will have on Europe’s energy sector, and invite all interested parties to join us both physically and online for the demonstration.”

The pilot demonstration is open to stakeholders, end-users, media representatives, and other invited guests. Are you interested? Register here now!

Vicomtech in RESPONDENT

Vicomtech is the technical and scientific leader of this project. The team of the centre involved in RESPONDENT will develop a system and algorithm to use the data provided by the Galileo satellite and data provided by end users that will predict the energy demand that the electric grid will support in order to optimise the grid balance and synchronization
