Last days of June saw the official creation of EIKEN, the Basque audiovisual cluster, which has 45 member firms from the region"s audiovisual and multimedia industry.

EIKEN is the Basque region"s twelfth business cluster, now officially up and running following its first general meeting, at which deputy regional minister Iñaki Telletxea and cluster chairman Ricardo Gonzalez signed the relevant pieces of paper.

In an industry made up almost exclusively of very young businesses, the cluster arrives on the scene with the stated purpose of transforming and consolidating the audiovisual industry by promoting competitiveness on an international level, by being a technological benchmark, bearing in mind that today"s communication and technology are inextricably linked.

To achieve its objectives, the audiovisual cluster has identified five different strategic areas of action: new technologies (led by Vicomtech-IK4), management quality, new markets, infrastructures, and contents.According to Karmelo Vivanco from EIKEN"s member Baleuko, although most firms in the industry are in their infancy, they"ve got a lot of energy, are up there with the best as far as new technologies are concerned, and are really looking forward to working on the regional, Spanish and international markets.
