Vicomtech opens new headquarters in Zorrotzaurre
The new headquarters was created with the aim of continuing to provide support to strengthen Bilbao-Bizkaia as a hub for advanced digital technologies in the field of AI, to attract and promote the growth of talent to strengthen the scientific-technological capacity of the Basque Country and its companies and to contribute to the digital transition and sustainability of the business fabric through innovation.

With more than 250 research professionals, and after more than 20 years of existence and growth in the Science and Technology Park of Donostia/San Sebastian, and after two years in the Ensanche area of Bilbao, Vicomtech is now opening a new stage in the facilities of the Ribera de Zorrotzaurre 2 building, with the support of the Bilbao City Council.
With this collaboration, as well as continuing to expand, Vicomtech offers state-of-the-art facilities that will be equipped in the near future to tackle new technological challenges together with the people who work at Vicomtech Bilbao as well as with the new incorporations planned for the coming months. With this, a long-term strategic commitment is being made, which will allow more companies in the territory to continue to benefit from these technologies, through the first urban technology centre in the Basque Country.
In this way, the Centre contributes to the strategic objectives of strengthening Bilbao-Bizkaia as a hub for the creation and transfer of advanced digital technologies in the field of AI, attracting talent and making it grow to strengthen the scientific-technological capacity of the Basque Country and its companies, and contributing to the dual digital-sustainability transition of the business fabric, through innovation, thanks to a decisive technology such as artificial intelligence.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the Zorrotzaurre headquarters of this Technology Centre, the Mayor Juan Mari Aburto opened the ceremony today and the Vice Minister for Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Basque Government, Estíbaliz Hernáez, was in charge of the closing ceremony. They then visited the new installations and exchanged impressions with its President, Jon Ander De Las Fuentes, its General Manager, Julián Flórez, and the Director of the Bilbao Office, Agustín Zubillaga, as well as the rest of the team to whom the Mayor expressed his satisfaction for choosing "Zorrotzaurre to install its headquarters in Bilbao and for believing in this very Bilbao dream of converting this area of the City into the island of Talent, Knowledge and Opportunities, where young people and professionals can train and take on their business initiatives or develop their professional careers. ."
For his part, the President of Vicomtech has pointed out that faithful to its mission of technology transfer to companies and training of specialised researchers, and reaffirming its closeness to the productive and business fabric of the Basque Country, "Vicomtech's new headquarters will be a further step in this same direction." To this end, it will continue to collaborate closely with other knowledge agents, business cooperation and administrations in order to contribute to the technological development of the area.
Recruitment for the new centre
The Centre, as they explained, plans to gradually hire and incorporate people with STEAM profiles linked to applied industrial research into its offices, in order to strengthen and expand its work teams and continue providing solutions to companies with proximity and efficiency.
During the Mayor's visit, they also presented the strategy for establishing the centre in the city, as well as the lines of research that the centre is developing and that will now be reinforced from the new headquarters in Zorrotzaurre.
