Cooperative Perception Services for the Basque Connected Corridor

The Connected, Cooperative and Automated Systems team at Vicomtech has developed the CPS-BCC (Cooperative Perception Services for the Basque Connected Corridor) project with the aim of carrying out V2X (Vehicle to Everything) connectivity tests on connected vehicles and the physical and digital infrastructure of the Basque Connected Corridor (BCC) on its different sections of the AP-8 located in Bizkaia.

The project includes the implementation of two connected and instrumented vehicles, capable of receiving and transmitting standard ETSI CAM, CPM, etc. messages, each of them specialized to transmit a certain type of information, such as the position of the vehicle, or the elements it perceives around it.

The innovation of the project has consisted of the implementation of two instrumented vehicles in naturalistic driving maneuvers on the AP-8, exchanging ETSI, CAM and CPM messages, through ITS-G5 networks, between themselves, and with the BCC infrastructure. This exercise is part of the research that Vicomtech is carrying out on vehicular communications technologies that seek to expand the concept of autonomous vehicle to connected, cooperative and autonomous vehicle (CCAM, Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility).

During the tests, which have been carried out on various sections of the AP-8, Vicomtech has had a vehicle capable of detecting obstacles and other vehicles on the road with camera and LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. These detections allow a study to be carried out on the precision, latency and other properties of V2X messages, and to obtain a diagnosis on their suitability for the implementation of CCAM services.
