OpenAirInterface North America Workshop: Latest advances of FeMBMS and 5G Broadcast in OAI

Vicomtech contributes to the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OSA) (OpenAirInterface) and 5G Broadcast (3gpp) providing the first worldwide open source FeMBMS receiver implementation. The new enhancements have been introduced during the First OpenAirInterface North America Workshop (25 June, New Jersey, OpenAirInterface North America Workshop). The solution developed by VICOMTECH, in close cooperation with the German Broadcast Technology Centre (IRT, Munich), provides an standard compliant UE (User Equipment) side implementation available to be used as PoC in field trials and early FeMBMS network deployments. 

FeMBMS (Further evolved Multimedia Broadcast & Multicast) is the “broadcast only” profile standardized in 3GPP Release 14 in order to enhance the 3rd Generation Partnership Project to accommodate broadcast applications and IP data over large scale (HTHP) cellular network topologies.
